Traditional Jonna Rotte (Jowar Roti)


Very popular in villages and small towns as well. Jonna rotte (Jowar Roti) is one of the traditional recipes of India.

Jonna (Jowar) is healthy food. Jonna (Jowar) rotte is best food for diabetic patients and also this roti is good for maintain diet and celiac diseases or digestive problems.

Here is the recipe:
Traditional Jonna Rotte (Jowar Roti)
Ingredients :
  • Jonna pindi  (Jowar Flour) : 2 cups
  • Water : 2 cups
  • Wheat flour for dusting
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - 2-3tsp
  Special Implements used - puri press or a tortilla maker
  Freshly milled jowar flour yields the best results ...

Method :

Bring the two cups of water to a boil. Add the salt and jowar flour, combine with water by stirring it well. Switch off the heat immediately. Cover with lid and allow it to cool. Knead the dough till soft and divide into balls. Roll out each dough ball into a circle, using wheat flour for dusting. Put the roti on a hot tava , cook for a minute and turn once. Add a little oil around the edges, turn again and fry the other side. When brown patches appear on both sides take into a bowl and cover with a lid immediately.

Continue the process for the rest of the dough. Serve with dal or any curry

Traditionally the farmers eat this with curd ,onion and jaggery.
